So you’ve decided to write a blog. You have a million ideas that keep you awake at night but when you sit down to write… crickets. Here are some tips to help get your brain juices flowing.
Blog about things you’re doing anyway- Are you planning a birthday party? Re-caulking your tub? Taking your kids to a new park? Take pictures while you’re at it. Share your thoughts, photos and experiences in a blog post. Remember: you don’t have to caulk bath tubs for a living to show people how to do it! In fact, they may like your honest tutorial (with struggles and mistakes included) better than a tutorial from an expert.
Movie review- Write about a movie you love or hate… just be sure to give a SPOILER ALERT if you go into too much detail!
Discuss a book you’ve read- How did it make you feel? Will you read it again?
Write a How-To- Whether it is for a craft, recipe, or remodel people can come to your site to learn from your tutorial
Interview someone- Chat with a local business owner. It’s good PR for you and them.
Share a personal story- Your most embarrassing moment, how you met your significant other, something mischievous you did as a kid.
Share your favorite quotes- Explain why they are special to you.
Share your favorite songs- How do they make you feel?
Talk about your dream vacation- Where do you want to go? What do you want to do there?
Share a life lesson- Tell a story about something that happened to you that changed the way you view life.
Take pictures of your house- Share your decorating style.
Write it Down- Keep a tiny notebook and pencil in your pocket. Leave a sheet of paper and a pen by the bed. Have a paper pad on the refrigerator. Have a stone slab and chisel in the garden! Any time an ideas strikes write it down. You will have a plethora of ideas just a few days in.
Get Inspired- Check out the blogs of your favorite writers in your niche. See what kind of things they have been blogging about. See what things your friends are talking about on social media. This can spark all kinds of topic ideas for your blog.
Solve your own problems- What questions or problems do you have daily that you can research and answer. “How do I get that spot off my microfiber couch?” You could research how to do it and then do a photo tutorial of how you did it. Review the process. “How do I attract birds to my yard?” Read about it, do it, take pictures of your set up and share what birds came to visit.
THE BEST_______ EVER- Book, movie, recipe, character, TV show etc.
THE WORST ______ EVER- See above.
Do a giveaway- Do you make something? Do you have a favorite product you want to share? Do a giveaway raffle for your subscribers.
Blog about a vacation you went on- Be sure to share pictures.
Make a list of your favorites- Flowers, color, cake flavor, anything!
Write about your favorite concert- When was it? Where was it? Did you mosh? How long did it take to get your hearing back?
Before and after- Clean out your pantry, clean your shower, organize your closet. Take before and after pictures and share what you learned and felt through the process.
Make a scavenger hunt list- Make it a free printable so people can print and go on a hunt with their family.
Write about your favorite person- Make it a poem or article about why they are awesome, what they mean to you, what they have taught you. Include special memories and send them a copy.
Research an awesome animal- Share the cool facts you learned.
Share your personal money saving tips- Do you clip coupons? Do you upcycle furniture? Show your readers how you do it.
Share your hobbies- What gets you out of bed in the morning? I know it isn’t the commute to work…
Write out your bucket list- Why is each thing important enough for you to have it on the list?
Talk about your cat or dog- Or lizard or bird or squirell…
Write about your favorite season- What things can you only do during that time?
Share fun facts about you- Do you have any hidden talents or weird interests? Spill it!
Your ideal night out- What would you do if you had one night to live it up and money wasn’t an issue?
Best things to watch on Netflix- Highlight your favorite shows, movies and documentaries on Netflix for your readers to binge watch.
Your favorite products- What are your favorite products to use? Can you say Lush shimmer bar?
FAQ’s of your profession- What questions do people ask you about your job? Answer them. For example, as a dental assistant people always ask if flossing everyday is really important… HECK YES!
And in my opinion it never hurts to have a caffeinated beverage to give you a little boost!
